Whosane, born Abdi Hussein in Brooklyn, New York has been active in the music industry 10+ years as an MC, producer and music marketer. Just after a 30-city North America tour with Mos Def, Jay Electronica and Erykah Badu in the summer of 2009, Whosane desired to further challenge himself as an entertainer, and break into a new market, expanding his opportunity to include Television, Print, Voice, and Film, collaborating with talented artists across the globe. In an effort to bridge the musical gap between America and Africa Whosane relocated to Cape Town and immediately gained critical attention in Africa and beyond. He received Pan African acclaim through MTV Base, Channel O, topping national charts with over four number one songs, and two number one songs on international charts. Whosane joined forces with MC Jimmy Flexx and talented vocalist Nonku to form the group Pangaea, and released his solo album Prelude to Black Diamond(Pangaea Music/Breeze Projects,available on iTunes). As a member of Cape Town based Reggae band, The Rudimentals, Whosane has illustrated his creative versatility, topping South African charts adding a "Distant Relatives" vibe to the band. Amid developing his own TV show, at the request of Discovery Network (USA), Whosane has managed to develop a extremely successful acting career, globally. From working along side actors, William Hurt and Vincent Regan, to narringting "Snakes In The City", for National Geographic, Whosane has created a momentum of incremental success.
To date Whosane has shot print & TVC campaigns with: Pepsodent, Hyundai, Levi, BMW, Corona, Quaker Oats, Cote D'Or & Dial soap. Whosane has also appeared on several Discovery Network & BBC feature presentations. Whosane is the Voice of several international brands, Just to name some of his notable work, but the list is quite impressive! Play energy Drink, Grants Whiskey, Cruz Vodka & Jack Daniels.
Whosane has collaborated with music artists such as Phife Dawg, The Black Keys, Om'mas, Chali 2na, Mos Def, Zaki Ibrahim, Jean Grae, Curren$y, Goapele, Native Sunz, & Lakecia Benjamin, in addition to some of Some South Africa's finest artists which include HHP, Tumi, Proverb, Khanyi Mavi, Aka, & Da Les. In addition to working with producers Eric Lau, Raaphael Saadiq, Bobby Ozuna, Dj Preservation, Oh No, G Koop, Draztik, & Edan, Whosane was also worked exstensively with classic Hip Hop producer Ski Beatz's making jams like "Taxi", "Aerials" and "Thug Disco". Whosane's brand partnerships include Puma (SA), (SA),Cape Audio (USA) and Straight Path Jewlz.Whosane is currently working on "Turtle Hair" an animated music series with African illustrators and his Cape Town based band "Citizen Whosane", and Producer J 1. "Turtle Hair" is being mixed & co produced by D Angelo's sound guru, Ben Kane
